The First Annual
San Diego Festival of Books
August 26, 2017 at Liberty Station
In partnership with San Diego Literacy & The San Diego Union-Tribune we had music by harpist, Kathleen Hartshorne and Jim Moore and poetry by students and teachers. Later we performed on stage at the Children’s Pavilion.
Jason Xiao, Spreckels Elementary, Grade 4, reading his award winning poem, “Me and the Ducks,” -Boston Public Gardens. Award: First Place Upper Division.
Poet Teacher: Seretta Martin, Classroom Teacher: Elizabeth Stewart.
Dorothy Mau, Spreckels Elementary, Grade 3, reading her award winning poem, “The Goddess.” Award: Third Place Lower Division. Poet Teacher: Seretta Martin, Classroom Teacher: Elizabeth Stewart.
Danahi Martinez, George Washington Carver Elementary, Grade 4, reading her award winning poet, “A World of My Own.” Award: Third Place Upper Division.

The 24th annual Border Voices Poetry Fair was
May 19, 2017 at ITV Studios
Onstage, four poets-teachers and Jack Webb shared poetry and insight with award-winning students who are graduates of the new, expanded Border Voices program. During the filming the audience included student poets from the workshop and their parents.
Four TV shows were filmed and are televised in July and throughout the year on ITV, Ch. 16 to 850,000 households and 15,000 classrooms.
